Caring for your Hardwood Furniture
- Only use commercial polishes for dusting that are nonsilicone based.
- Always dust with a soft, clean polished-moistened cloth.
- Dust the furniture with the moistened cloth in a motion that goes with the grain of the hardwood.
- Use a second soft, clean cloth to wipe away any excess moisture, again going with the wood grain.
- Avoid placing hardwood furniture in direct sunlight for extended periods of time. Over-exposure to the sun’s rays can alter the wood’s coloration.
- Use a soft, clean cloth to blot up any spilled liquids as soon as possible.
- Use coasters on hardwood for both hot and cold drinks.
- Though the finish is heat resistant, it is still best to use protective mats under hot dishes, utensils and cooking appliances.
- To prevent unwanted drying of the furniture, keep the room temperature and humidity as constant as possible. Ideally, the humidity should be between 40 and 50 percent.
- Avoid placing hardwood furniture directly in front of sources of heat, like fireplaces and heating ducts.
- Use felt spacers if a piece of glass or acrylic is used to cover the top of any hardwood furniture to allow the furniture to continue to breathe,
- Use felt protectors on the feet of all accessories and trivets that are placed on the top of hardwood furniture.
